Responsibilities

  • Specify, monitor, and advise on all metallurgical, fabrication, welding, and NDE aspects (including QA/QC) during engineering, procurement, construction, and offshore operation project phases of various products.
  • Coordinate, execute, and control the Metallurgical and Welding activities in Projects and/or proposals in accordance with Project requirements within the assigned budget, time schedule, and quality standards.
  • Ensure that manufacturers, construction yards, and suppliers comply with requirements, client specifications, and applicable international rules, codes, standards, and procedures.
  • Responsible for man-hours estimation and monitoring of engineering budgets for the field of expertise within the projects.
  • Provide global support to group companies and offices, ensuring that industry standards are met, including manufacturer qualifications, specification development, specialist technical advice, and failure investigations.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to standardize, simplify, and improve efficiency of ways of working.

Main Tasks

  • Develop and compile project specifications.
  • Review client technical documentation and relevant legislation, standards, specification, and code requirements.
  • Participate in engineering man-hours estimation for metallurgical and welding activities.
  • Comply with technical standards and processes, raising comments and deviations when necessary.
  • Participate in defining metallurgical and welding deliverables, schedules, and control activities in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Provide assistance to engineering disciplines on subject matters.
  • Ensure quality and compliance of metallurgy, welding, NDE requirements in equipment packages, bulk supplies, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Interface with clients, subcontractors, and yards for resolution of metallurgy and welding issues.
  • Conduct technical audits and evaluations of suppliers and subcontractors, including qualification programs.
  • Review material deliverables produced by suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Advise on welding, fabrication, and metallurgical matters as needed.
  • Assist with material/equipment failure investigations and engineering assessments.
  • Suggest suitable actions to minimize deviations from approved time and budget.
  • Collect project lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in metallurgical and welding activities and initiate process improvements.

Job Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in metallurgy, welding, and NDE for FPSO, FSO, FLNG, mooring systems during FEED, detailed engineering, and execution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Metallurgy, Petroleum, Materials Science, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
  • Certification from a materials-related professional association such as IWE, IOM3, or TWI is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of international offshore industry design, materials, fabrication codes & standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, API, ISO, NACE, ASTM, ABS, BV, DNV, LR related to metallurgy, welding, and material selection).
  • Knowledge of material selection for corrosion control, corrosion challenges, failure mechanisms, CP systems (ICCP and SACCP), and fireproofing is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, ownership, initiative, and ability to work in a multicultural team environment.
  • Able to multitask efficiently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proactive, self-motivated individual capable of delivering results efficiently.
  • Office presence required a few days per week.
  • Availability for travel to yards, fabrication sites, and vendor premises worldwide.
  • Strong analytical, organizational skills, and flexibility in managing multiple activities.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
